Program Roots

Students were coming to school hungry and unfocused, especially after the weekend.  A teacher noticed and instituted a program she called Backpack Buddies.  

Who We Are

Oregon City’s Backpack Buddies program is a non-profit organization in cooperation with the Oregon Food Bank. Many schools are sponsored by a local faith congregation.  

Who We Serve

We serve students in Oregon City who are experiencing food insecurity.  Many students struggle to have access to enough child-friendly food over the weekend.

How We Are Funded

Our funding comes from community events, community members, local businesses, donations of money and food from cooperating faith congregations.

Groups get together at various locations to assemble the bags.  

We Need Your Help

If you would like to donate food, the following is a list of needed items:

     *peanut butter          *shelf-stable milk

     *chili                    *100% fruit juice     

     *Easy Mac               *fruit cups

     *pull-top soup          *applesauce

     *trailmix or nuts     *single-serve cereal
